Artist's Comments

Slightly foggy this morning, visibility was down to probably no more than 50 yards and temperatures below zero, but if you don't try you'll never know if it was worth going out with the camera. I've uploaded the original file so you can see how bad the visibility was [link]

Biggest problem was only seeing the birds from 50 yards or less and having no time to focus and compose the shot. Further away than that and I was relying on my hearing to locate the direction they were coming from lol.

Biggest advantage, no other bugger was stupid enough to be out in the weather so I was on my own :D

Contrast was almost nonexistant using only about 5% of the full dynamic range and the lake behind the swan was covered in ducks which aren't visible in the fog lol. All in all worth a trip out and I'll be there tomorrow as well but I don't think any real keepers will come from it but always fun :)

This is yet another fantastic shot from you! Who cares about the weather? Despite visibility being bad, you still managed to capture this gorgeous swan.

Very nice shot and worth the effort in the cold weather! While it is misty their is wonderful contrast with the white highlight on the wing. To capture the bird in this position is great. Makes me smile!

Kev, Despite the challenges, you've pulled out a very striking photo that shows the speed with which these birds come in for a landing. I enjoy your swan photos because they are so dynamic and because they usually show us sides of the swan we seldom see. Well done, especially considering the challenges...
