The News Article link leads to this journal entry. Don't know if that was intended or not.

Will you be mentioning the winners in a journal as well as contacting them? Just curious.

I certainly will be 2dazed. I will update the February contest with the winners when they are judged, and notify the winners. I will do the same for the March contest.

Hi KevLewis,

I was the one the entered "Brotherly Love". A friend of mine sent me a note as she read these words in the contest description and became concerned that my entry might be disqualified.

"With this months theme I think it is important for people to know that I will not, under any circumstances, accept images of young birds in the nest for this competition. Wildlife has enough problems at this time of year and disturbing them just for the sake of a photograph, in my opinion, shows a complete lack of respect for nature."

If you were in-fact responding to my submission, I wish you would have sent me a note asking me for details first. The only reason those birds grew to be big enough to fly away was because my wife and I watched over them constantly and kept all of the neighborhood cats away from them.

They built their nest 5 feet away from my patio door where my office was so I was able to watch them all the time.

Even with chasing cats away all day, one cat was able to get a small meal as there used to be three robins. We never disturbed the parents for the sake of a picture and NEVER touched the nest or the birds them selfs. They repopulated that same nest three years in a row and we sort of became "the keepers of the nest". In fact, when we moved to the other side of town, within one week of moving in, another robin made another nest 5 feet from my new office window and raised 3 little chicks there as well. But this one was to high for me to get a good view of.

I know this is long winded but I really want to make it clear how I take pictures. If I have a great shot but there is a tree branch in the way, even though I could easily break off the branch, I leave it.

I have heard of those that carry fishing line and Popsicle sticks in their bag and use them to gently pull back shrubs and stuff from time to time so everything is the same when they leave as it was when they got there and will be adopting this practice myself.

If your comments were in fact directed toward my entry, I beg you to reconsider. Not that I think I have a chance of winning anyways the other submissions were incredible lol.

I just won't tolerate thoughts of disrespect for animals and nature its self being directed my way as it simply is not true.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Hi MadMech, the additional clause is only for the March competition and the specific Theme "The New Beginning". Fledglings would be an obvious type of image for this theme and I wouldn't wish to promote that type of image.

Your entry is in the February contest and will be considered equally with the rest of the entries. I'm sorry if this has caused any confusion but I think you will understand my concerns.

regards
Kev Lewis

No problem and I agree 100%. I took these pictures because I was able to do so in a way that nature permitted, I would never "seek" out a nest and it's good to discourage others from doing so.

Thanks for the quick response and sorry for the misunderstanding.

Have a great weekend!!

Something really interesting about your contest I always liked is how you are going to make somebody else happy if you win, giving them a subscription as a surprise :3
